Public Safety Update - August 2025
San Francisco’s public safety landscape is evolving with key policy moves, new tech, and big investments in emergency response. The Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee just “continued to call of the chair” a resolution to ensure every 911 call about drug activity near parks, playgrounds, and schools gets top-priority police response; this heads to the full Board in September. Meanwhile, SFPD is accelerating hiring and academy programs to combat ongoing staffing shortages. In a major tech upgrade, SFPD is expanding its citywide drone network with 10 new launch sites. A Real Time Investigation Center has opened downtown, set to boost drone operations and modernize emergency response and surveillance for law enforcement and fire support across the city. The Police Commission is launching its search for a new Chief this month and ConnectedSF Institute will be hosting two opportunities for the public to speak with commissioners and provide input.
